If you have health problems, in addition to a quality multi-vitamin and pharmaceutical grade fish oil, consider the following options. Always consult your medical provider before using supplements for medical problems.
MEN'S SUPPLEMENTS
Benign Prostate Hypertrophy (BPH )
Start with an evaluation with your medical provider. Then consider saw palmetto, 160 mg 1-2 times per day. You can take this with or without other medications for BPH after discussing it with your physician. If saw palmetto does not give you adequate relief, you can add stinging nettle ( Urtica dioica ) extract 25 mg to 50 mg daily and/or pygeum bark ( Pygeum africanum ) extract 25 mg to 50 mg daily.
Prostate Cancer Prevention
Men at elevated risk for prostate cancer may benefit from adding the following regimen to their supplement program:
- Selenium, total intake 200 mcg daily
- Lycopene 5-15 mg daily
- Zinc, 25-50 mg daily (total intake = all supplements plus diet with usually 10-15 per day from diet sources)
Erectile Dysfunction
L-Arginine is the amino acid the body uses to make nitric oxide, a potent blood vessel dilator. Viagra Ò , the drug commonly used for impotence, also increases nitric oxide production in your blood vessels. Taking a L-arginine supplement does something similar. As a precursor of nitric oxide, 3-6 grams of L-arginine daily increases nitric oxide production and improves erectile function, much like Viagra and the other ED medications now available. |
