DIABETIC SUPPORT (Blood sugar regulation support)
Anyone with diabetes, the metabolic syndrome, a triglyceride/HDL ratio greater than 4, or other tendencies towards diabetes should think of adding blood sugar regulation support in addition to lifestyle changes I advocate throughout this book. Always speak with your health provider before adding supplements for cognitive support.
People with blood sugar regulation problems have accelerated aging because of the increase in oxidative stress, depletion of vitamin levels, and because of altered metabolism and hormonal dysfunction.
I suggest that diabetics discuss the following supplement options with their medical provider. The supplement dosages for diabetic support reflect your multi-vitamin and your diabetic supplement combined to reach the dosages for the ingredients below.
- Alpha lipoic acid 50-100 mg twice daily (300 mg twice daily for diabetic neuropathy)
- B vitamins
- Folic acid 800 mcg
- B6 25 mg
- B12 100 mcg to 1,000 mcg
- Biotin 300 mcg to 1,200 mcg
- all daily
- Bilberry extract 30 mg twice daily
- L-Carnitine 500 mg to 1,000 mg twice daily
- Chromium 100 mcg to 400 mcg twice daily
- EPA/DHA 360 mg/240 mg (about one gram of fish oil) twice daily
- Fiber- reach 30-50 grams daily (at least half should come from fruits and vegetables)
- Magnesium 300 mg twice daily (plus 1,200 mg of calcium daily from your diet and supplement intake)
- Selenium 100 mcg twice daily
- Vanadium 5 mcg to 25 mcg twice daily
- Vitamin C 500 mg to 1,200 mg daily (total equals diet plus supplement dosing)
Discuss the following with your medical provider:
- Ginseng (G115 extract) 100 mg twice daily
- Gymnema 200 mg twice daily
- Aspirin 81 mg daily
